A train is rapidly approaching a railway junction. The train's brakes are broken. As of now, the train is set to run over five individuals who are walking on the train track. However, there is a lever in front of you that can divert the train to an adjacent track where only one person is walking. What would you do, considering that the individual(s) walking across whichever track that the train goes towards will not be able to get off the track in time to survive?

The main idea here is to pick an option (pull the lever or don't pull the lever) and discuss your values and thinking clearly.

This scenario is very difficult. I would try my best and pull my composure together in this stressful scenario and try to make the best decision. Of course, I would yell at all the individuals on the train track in advance, with the hope that some may be able to run off. However, knowing that they likely don't have enough time to get off (as mentioned in the question), I would choose to not pull the lever.
